JNV Assam Admission 2026
Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has released the official notification of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test, 2026 for admission into Class VI of academic session 2026 – 2027. Students who are interested and qualified and want to get into Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in Assam must take this JNVST exam.
In accordance with the National Policy of Education (1986), Government of India started Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs). The JNVs are currently present in 27 states and eight Union Territories. These are co-educational residential schools fully financed and administered by Government of India through an autonomous organization, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.

The following are advantages that Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya students will enjoy:
Up until Class VIII, the mother tongue or regional language is used as the medium of instruction in JNVs. After that, English is used for Mathematics and Science, and Hindi is used for Social Science.
JNV students take the Central Board of Secondary Education board examinations.
While education in the schools is free including board & lodging, uniform and textbooks, a sum of Rs. 600/- per month is collected only from the students of Classes IX to XII towards Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi.
# On the other hand, students who fall under the SC/ST category, all girls, and whose families earn less than the federal poverty level (BPL) are exempt.
Vikas Nidhi will be charged at Rs.1500/- per month or the actual children’s education allowance received by the parent per month for wards of government employees other than those in the exempted category (students in grades 6 through 8, all SC/ST & Girl students, and wards of BPL families).
On the other hand, the VVN for each student must not be less than Rs. 600 per month.
Eligibility Criteria of Assam Navodaya Admission
Geo location: A candidate who is studying class V in a district is allowed to apply for admission to JNV in the same district only. Through JNVST, only genuine residents of the district in which the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is located and class V students from that district are eligible to apply for admission to JNVs.
Candidates for admission who were born between May 1, 2014, and July 31, 2016 (both dates inclusive) are not eligible. All candidates, including those from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Class (OBC), will be affected by this. Candidates for the selection test must have completed a “B” certificate competency course offered by the National Institute of Open Schooling in the same district where they are applying for admission or be in Class-V for the entirety of the 2023-24 academic year. No of Attempt/s: No candidate is eligible to appear in the selection test for the second time, under any circumstances.
Rural Quota:
At least 75% of the seats in a district will be filled by candidates selected from rural areas of the district. According to reservation criteria, candidates from the district’s Urban and Rural Areas will compete for the remaining seats based on merit. A candidate seeking admission under the rural quota must have studied in Classes-III, IV and V completing full academic session from the Government/ Government Aided/Government recognized schools located in rural areas. However, the candidate should study full academic session under rural area in Class-V from the same district where admission is sought.
Important Dates of Navodaya Assam Admission 2025
The online application process will begin on June 3, 2025.
The online application deadline is July 29, 2025.
The Navodaya Selection Test (JNVST) in 2024 will take place on December 13, 2025.
March 2026 marked the declaration date of the JNVST Class 6 result.
